She is charming, smart, challenging, and is guaranteed to make a lasting impression
on everyone she meets with her out going personality. She has learned to accomplish the
use of all the clicker training props shown in the above photos, including many other tricks.

The darling little Goffins cockatoo is undoubtedly one of the best known and most popular of the small cockatoos.
These little guys are active, quizzical and such fun to observe. She can keep herself busy for hours with a new toy
on her cage playtop. Angel is the type that savors being cuddled and fondled by her favorite person. (me).
Angel has just begun talking - and her vocabulary is limited at this time. (but I think it will improve.)

Cockatoos are not for everyone. If one decides they want to live with a cockatoo, this commitment must be taken seriously .I just feel terrible when a bird is purchased just because they are cute - and the purchaser has no idea how to care for them and how much time and attention they really do require. Serious research should be conducted before adopting a cockatoo. Then decide if a cockatoo is right for you and also if YOU are right for a cockatoo ( or any parrot, as far as that goes).

The intelligence of the cockatoo is almost scary. There intelligence is rated off the scale. But because of their intelligence, this parrot is often bored and under challenged and it becomes a self mutilator, a screamer, or worse. They must be be kept busy with some very very highly interactive toys. Like toys that the bird can take apart, stacking cups, etc. Teaching them tricks and interacting with them is bliss to them.

Cockatoos have some very special needs - Mainly it takes PATIENCE on our side. Patience refers to understanding a
cockatoo's sensitive nature and emotional needs. It means examining your environment to determine what may be upsetting the cockatoo. It means slowly introducing new objects and surroundings to our cockatoo to avoid serious phobias.

SOCIALIZATION is very important with cockatoos. If he/she never leaves the house except to go to the vet., then your bird is likely to become a one person bird. Will become very stressed when anyone walks in the door, and extremely stressed when it has to go into the carrier. A cockatoo is a wonderful, magical and glorious creature. It is also a sensitive, fragile and helpless creature in captivity. It is our challenge to help them deal with the challenges in life in captivity. If the bird is socialized from an early age, and socialized often throughout its life, the less stress they experience while going to the vet., or with a pet sitter while you are on vacation or while you are sick in the hospital, etc. To insure the birds continued happiness its critical that they can adapt to changes and new people and new places. Anything worth it's weight in gold requires some work. Yea! You gotta love 'em and these little Goofies are
worth their weight in gold! !
